In 2012 , the supporting global competitiveness of the Danish Government ( GCF ) funded for Son Thanh VinaCafe Joint Stock Company in order to perfecting productive processes pepper plants under GlobalGAP standards. The key point of this standard is towards clean pepper production standards , traceability , food safety and hygiene . Therefore , the products are certified under GlobalGAP standards’ will have advantages in branding and competitive on the world market .

Mr. Phung Quang Dan , Head of production - business , Son Thanh VinaCafe Company , said: " People in Son Thanh Tay have grown Pepper trees more than 20 years with a total area of ​​500 ha . Their living condition is increasing day by day thanks to pepper trees . Nevertheless to developed sustainable pepper trees we need to direct the farmers  product peppers under GlobalGAP standards.

To help farmers participate in the supply chain of the world pepper , access and  apply cultivable technology, advanced processing, we have been set up projects to support farming techniques , drip automatically irrigation and purchasing raw materials for processing white pepper export. In current time, there are more than 10 hectares with 14 households applied the GlobalGAP standards " .

After more than 2 years of implementing , the pepper areas applied this model  are growth and development well , less disease. Approximately, 1 hectare pepper 3 years old start ripening. Through observing and comparison , the ratio of ripening in the GlobalGAP standards’ garden is higher than not apply models one; particularly at a harvest time the productions will be higher from 10-15 % .

Ms. Tran Thi Minh Thu , Chairman - Managing Director of Son Thanh VinaCafe Company , said: " In 2014 plan we’ll continue to expand 10 hectares GlobalGAP standards pepper. Households participate in the model will be supported 50 % of irrigation systems installation and lending investment capital if needed..

" The GlobalGAP pepper plants grow faster than normal pepper PRODUCTION, because it is plant according to strict technical process from land preparation, seed selection and attention. For example, soil - safety irrigation water; variety of disease ; permitted fertilizers and pesticides, mainly sourced organic medication safety for users, said Dan.

Directing us to visit pepper plants, Nguyen Thị Lan, a model participant said her family had grown 5 acres of GlobalGAP standards peppers . Currently, pepper plants start ripening with high fruit setting rate , equally seeds than pepper plants not applied models . However, grown pepper according to this standard her family has invested drip irrigation installation systems , automatic fertilizers and medicines system; trench systems for pepper plants to anti-flooding. Thanks to applied this model she can save much input cost for the pepper plants and she is excited . 

Similarly, the pepper plants of Mr. Duong Van- the same rural , who planted one hectare pepper under this model said that thanks to GlobalGAP production, his family had reduced about 600 workers / year with an average price 200,000 VND / day /worker, compare with 1600 workers/year with normal way.

 Planting pepper under the new techniques, each pepper tree is set up a wire irrigation, so watering is focused , right locations. It’s also saving water then limiting weeds in the garden and reduce attention, said Van sharing .

Through surveying, although the initial capital investment for the garden according to GlobalGAP standards is quite high - 160 million, nearly double compared to normal way (equivalent 1,600 pepper spar). However, with the positive effects of  the model , many farmers in Tay Hoa district are learning and growing peppers in compliance with the standards.
