On 27/12/2014, in Buôn Ma Thuột city, Daklak province, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development cooperated with PPC Daklak held the Conference: Promoting research and deploymenting models of preventing quick die and slow die diseases on pepper.

Deputy Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Lê Quốc Doanh, Vice Chairman of PPC Daklak Đinh Văn Khiết are the same chairmans of conference. Beside that, Mr Bạch Thanh Tuấn – Director of Community Development also participated in this conference.

In 2014, Pepper production has still gotten lots of successes and continued bringing Vietnam being the leading country on pepper export all the world for 4 years ( from 2010 to 2014). Tunover of pepper export in 2014 achived 1.2 billion USD, increase up to 34.4 % compared to 2013. The domestic average price of pepper is 170,000 VND/kg, this is the highest price so far. Price and high productivity lead the pepper planting area increasing over the plan of pepper sector.
Mr Đinh Văn Khiết, Vice Chairman of PPC Daklak said: The pepper area planning of province to 2015 is 11,000 hectas, 2020 is 15,000 hectas. However, up to 2014 the using area for pepper planting is 15,473 hectas and pepper is planted in any region, on any kind of soil, that leads the desforestation to have ground for planting pepper and using living-tree column and pepper varities, that is very difficult to control.The other provinces are in the same status of over control of expanding the pepper planting area, such as in Gia Lai farmers have planted on 13,114 hectas of 6,000 hectas planning area, the plan was 7,000 hectas to 2020, but at present the are was used is 9,000 hectas.
Massive development, along with intensive investments led to the situation of disease outbreak, the quick death and slow death diseases on pepper.
As report of the Department of Plant Protection of the province, the situation of the two diseases is growing very strong, typically in Dak Lak province has 1,680 hectas are sick, 400 hectars in Dak Nông, 1,600 hectares in Gia Lai, 1,074 hectas in Binh Phuoc, 796 hectas in Lâm Đồng.

Conclusion conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Lê Quốc Doanh reviewed the quick death, slow death on pepper currently is very serious. The local, research institutions and authorities of Ministry must act with the utmost spirit. He also assigned its units quickly improve the process of prevention quick death, slow death on the above recommendation. After completing the preventing process, the National Agricultural Extension Center will propagate guiding farmers through extension events, training, exchange on television; The agricultural sector of the province will propose the establishment of the disease prevention group. Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will be officially launched the action phase of disease prevention for quick death and slow death on pepper starting from 01.03.2015 until the end of 4/2015.
