Solution for sustainable cocoa development in the Central Highlands

On July 17th, in Dak Lak, the Board of Management of the project "Cooperation enhance sustainable cocoa development," DCP (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) organized the conference on "Lessons Learned in Dak Lak and develop solutions for sustainable cocoa developpment in Central Highlands region.”

Attending the conference were Mr. Nguyễn Như Hiến - Deputy Head of Industrial Plants and Fruits - Cultivation Department, Mr. Huynh Quoc Thich - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Dak Lak Province, Mr. Bach Thanh Tuan - Director of the Community Development Center (CDC), Representative of Departments and Agencies, organizations, companies and farmers in cocoa production in the Central Highlands provinces.

Conference adopted two reports: the sistuation of cocoa development in Dak Lak: Lessons learn for sustainable cocoa development in the Central Highlands, and report on "Current status and proposed communications solutions to sustainable cocoa development in the future."

 

Through these two reports, the workshop successfully analyze the causes, failures, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges in order to offer solutions to overcome, as the same time, took out the lessons learned to sustainable cocoa development for the Central Highlands.

 

At the conference, the participants emphasized the Highlands area is the potential area, sustainable ecological, fertile basaltic soils those are favorable conditions for sustainable cocoa production, economic development and the improvement of people living. However, to develop cocoa sustainably, there should be the close coordination of four "houses": the State, scientists, farmers, businesses and organizations in the country and on over the world in researching, training, guiding technique and price stability.
