Planning pepper export strive to turnover 1.2 billion dollars

(CDC) – Mr. Cao Đức Phát - Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved a plan to develop Vietnam‘s pepper industry in 2020, with a vision to 2030 to increase productivity and value to meet the pepper industry market demand, especially export markets.

This emphasizes planning to exploit the advantages of land, water, climate, weather to develop pepper in the direction of producing goods, focus, efficiency and sustainability.

The objective of plan is striving to 2020, vision to 2030, the area plant pepper in the country remained stable at 50,000 ha, yield 30 quintal/ha, production reached 140,000 tons and the high quality pepper products is 90%. Product Structure 70% black pepper (crushed pepper powder in 15%), 30% white pepper (pepper minced around 25%) and exports reached U.S. $ 1.2-1.3 billion.

Accordingly, the Minister - Mr Cao Duc Phat asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development provinces and cities under central planning grounds orientation pepper industry across the country to advise the provincial People‘s Committees review building development plan pepper at the local; implementing the approved plan.

With the old, degenerative pepper locals need to have recultivation plan. Pepper cultivation in areas where ecological conditions are not suitable, pepper contaminated with disease prevention and treatment difficult and not in the approved plan, the base unit should be encouraged to switch to other crops as planned by the local.

Besides, as planned, the need to promote local agricultural extension work to improve care for the growing, harvesting, processing and pepper; priority technical transfer of pepper production under quality certification VietGAP, Global GAP ...

More emphasis on development planning for pepper output Minister Cao Duc Phat said that, the base unit should enhance trade promotion, construction and branding pepper Vietnam. Exploiting traditional markets; expand the potential markets such as Europe, America, Japan; new markets like the Middle East, Africa ... and penetrating markets is the distribution of spices, food processors in consuming countries, the development of sustainable pepper.
