Pepper exports rose sharply approximately $ 1 billion

(CDC) - With a growth rate of over 30% in volume, nearly 50% of the value, forecast pepper will become billion commodity in September.

According to data of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the first 8 months of this year, Vietnam pepper exports  reached 132 682 tonnes, worth USD 989,8 million. Compared to the same period last year, the export volume during the first 8 months of the year increased 31% in volume and 47.8% in value.

 

With this increase, 2014 is considered the hit year of pepper’s history in both price and quantity. The average export price of pepper in the first 8 months, 2014 reached $ 7,459.7 / ton.

 

 In the exports forum in 2014 hold by The Ho Chi Minh Investment & Trade Promotion Center  - ITPC, Ms. Nguyen Mai Oanh, Deputy chairman of the Vietnam Pepper Association said: in this current time, we can see that pepper in 2014  is the most bumper crop, and the highest price the most ever, pepper growers is excited.

 

Currently, Vietnam‘s pepper volume ocuppies 30% consumption of the whole world and accounts for about 50% of world pepper export. USA, UAE, Netherlands and India are the largest import pepper markets of Vietnam. In the EU market, pepper is mainly imported into the Netherlands and Germany then distributed to other markets. Vietnam has far exceeded Brazil, Indonesia, India to become the No.1 supplier in this market.

 

With this growth, pepper will soon hit the record in Sep. However, to maintain its position, pepper industry should toward sustainable development, enhance communication, build branding ....
