Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee and Deputy  Ministry MARD Le Quoc Doanh, a conference has heard of the Plant Protection Department presented the report of plant protection in producing pepper in Vietnam. Currently there are over 79,000 hectares pepper, of which the largest area is Central Highlands provinces with more than 50% of the total area. Canculated to Sep 2014, the pepper area infected disease more than 14,000 acres, of which die fast- die slow area is more than 5,000 acres. Gia Lai province is the area with the largest yield and production pepper of the country about 11 734, 9 hectares, including 7530 hectares business pepper, 3715 hectares basic construction, new cultivating pepper in 2014 is 489, 9 ha. The massive development of pepper area had broken plan along with the inpropriate processing techique and care had caused many problems in the production process, and diseased in many areas, affected the living of a part of farmers.

At the meeting the specialized agencies, scientists have discussed, offered solutions for preventing dangerous disease in pepper plants. According to the specialized agencies, the pepper has suffered 13 harmful diseases, the most common of which is the root nematodes, disease die fast - die slow death caused by the fungus Phytophthora.

To mitigate this disease, the delegates said that we need to enhance awareness and understanding for pepper growers about appling advanced sciencetific technique and methods of integratting pest management on pepper. Promote bio-pest methods to prevent diseases on pepper toward sustainable pepper production, choose high-yielding and disease-resistant breeds. At the same time limited the use of plant protection products to help farmers improve production efficiency.

Conclusion the Workshop Minister Cao Duc Phat asserted pepper is an important export commodity of our country. Currently it is having high price, so the local should choose the suitable structure plan, reasonable cultivation, associated with socio-economic development in rural areas and the process in  restructuring of economic and rural agriculture.

The Minister also required the localities need to promote maximized advantages of the province to form intensive farming areas with appropriate scale, closely associated processing with raw materials, and develop supporting services strongly, in order to produce the highest yields. Maintain current pepper area, not develop massively.
