Launching workshop on restructuring action plans of crop production, livestock and fisheries sub sector

(CDC) - This morning (29/8), in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to announce action plans of restructuring crop production, livestock and fisheries. This event aims to share with the sponsor communities, relevant departments about the sub –sector - oriented priority.

Speaking at the workshop, Minister Cao Duc Phat expressed his desire to representatives of sponsors such as The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Bank (WB), the Canadian government ... will continue to support the implementation of the above action plans in accordance with the terms of public investment, scientific institutions and technology.

 

According to Minister Cao Duc Phat, over the time, many international organizations have participated to help for the restructuring of the agricultural sector. Specifically, FAO has provided technical assistance to develop action plans for the three sub-sectors as crop production, livestock and fishery; Government of Canada supports to help Vietnam implement the Technical and Policy Support project to serve the Agricutural restructuring scheme in the 2013-2020 period.

Most recently, the World Bank has supported the Sustainable agriculture transformation project in Vietnam (VNSat) to help build some of important agricultural chains...

 

Evaluating about the development of this industry, Minister Cao Duc Phat said that, nearly 30 years the agricultural sector has played a very important role in ensuring food security, creating jobs, raising incomes for 70% of the population, contributing to poverty reduction, social and political stability in Vietnam. In addition to these achievements, in recent years the agricultural sector begins to reveal weaknesses, unsustainable development.

"To carry out restructuring of the agricultural sector in general, the sub-sectors have stepped fundamental change. Accordingly, the scheme of restructuring of crop production has changed sectoral approaches based on specific criteria amount to only target the "three pillars of sustainable development: economic and social environment" for Vietnam agriculture, "Minister Cao Duc Phat stated.

 

Minister Cao Duc Phat also appreciated highly the attention and support of the international organizations, non-governmental and international experts who have been efforts to promote agricultural and rural development in Vietnam.

 

Specifically, restructuring plans for the crop production will be priority focused on transforming plant, development of large-scale production; plant variety research quality, high value-added, adapt to climate change while boosting processing, storage, post-harvest loss reduction.

 

In addition, the crop production needs to be reorganized production under value chain to expand public-private partnerships PPP, strengthening trade promotion. Innovation policies towards the construction of agricultural legislation, a policy for widely using of advanced irrigation technologies, water saving... /.
