In this funding, $ 700,000 support from Framework Programme in collaboration between the United Nations and the Vietnamese Government (UN One Plan), and the rest is counterpart funds of Vietnamese Government.
The project aims to improve and strengthen the institutions of the need for agricultural development in Vietnam NAMA. Accordingly, the training is designed to support practitioners, researchers, management staff of NAMA building national plans, tools and methods to estimate the greenhouse gas emissions and modeling. The successful methods and the outstanding scientific research will be shared, support for policy makers.
This information is announced by the project management unit, said at the Workshop of NAMA Working Group in Agriculture and consultation of sustainable development report held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on Sep 29th, in Hanoi.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development – Mr. Le Quoc Doanh emphasized that building the solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture play a very important role. Agriculture sector is not only affected by climate change but also the industry caused huge greenhouse gas emissions. Agriculture accounts for 43.1% of total national greenhouse gas emissions, including rice cultivation accounted for 57.3%.
According to Deputy Minister, to support practical activities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has signed decision to establish NAMA Working Group to provide advice and support to the units as well as to promote the implementation of mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with national scale and gradually connected activities greenhouse emissions in agriculture with international channels and is also receiving capacity building of officials and experts of the agricultural sector through the activities of the project.
According to Mr. John Habe, representative of FAO, to have success in reducing greenhouse gas emissions there must be interdisciplinary collaboration, leaders must make decisions and strong actions. Members of NAMA will be the focal point for sustainable agricultural development further.
Mr. Vu Dinh Thanh, deputy director of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Leader of NAMA Working Group said NAMA Working Group in agriculture help strengthen coordination between the Department / Department / Institute on making plans and completting proposals and tools for NAMA.
The focused mission is to identify priorities for the food production system and energy synthesis including suitability of this system in the economic development of smallholder farmers; sustainability on social and the environment and potentially reduce greenhouse gas emissions. /.
