Casava Industry contributes to create 1.2 million jobs for workers

In the morning July 18th, in Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak, Vietnam Casava Association (VN) held a conference executive committee in Central Highlands region to assess the reality sistuation of Vietnam‘s cassava industry in the current period, at the same time giving the solution, orientation in the up coming time.

 Chairman of Vietnam Association Dr. Nguyen Van Lang, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, chaired the meeting, the leaders of departments concerned of the five Highlands provinces are also participated in the conference. 

 

In recent years, Vietnam‘s cassava from food crops sub-tree has become an important industry, with acreage, yield and production increased rapidly.  

Cassava is grown in the North Central Region - Central Coast (147.9 thousand ha), Highland (149.5 thousand ha) and South East 96 hectares: the total area of the country cassava reached 560,000 ha, fresh cassava production reached about 9.5 million tons / year.    

 

Production of cassava starch from 1.6 to 2 million tons per year, production of cassava export rank the  2nd position in the world after Thailand, including 80% of cassava exported to China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia ... the remaining 20% is for domestic consumption; exports reached over $ 1 billion / year. 

 

 Every year, Vietnam‘s cassava industry has contributed to solving stable jobs for over 50,000 industrial workers in the cassava processing factories and more than 1.2 million workers who grow cassava.

  From there, cassava is considered as crops for poverty reduction in many areas of the country, contributing to the process of industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural of the country.  

Besides these achievements, at the conference, participants also pointed out the limitations and problems of the casava industry.

 Currently, most technology equipment in starch processing plants in the country are old, outdated, while speed improvement is slow, leading to quality products made uneven, some not eligible to penetrate difficult markets like Japan, EU... 

 

 The regional planning cassava overlapping, inconsistent, leading to competitive purchase multiple paintings sold at the plant; currently only natural ingredients developed to expand the area of ​​interest, not in intensive transfer yield varieties, high quality factor to enhance agricultural land use ... 

 

  Before the fact, participants also mentioned proposals: Positive negotiation expand export markets for agricultural products in Vietnam, reduction, removal of trade barriers and technical assistance to agricultural products Vietnam in the negotiation process in the free trade agreements; a policy of capital, financial incentives with low interest rates for businesses cassava starch production in the areas of investment materials, environmental processing systems and stockpiling inventory. 

 

 After the government proposal put cassava into national programs; MARD need regional planning materials with processing of the plant to avoid competitive procurement of raw materials between plants in the region, and promote applied research and yielding cassava varieties suitable for different ecological areas in the country...
