Earlier, in 2012 - 2013, due to unstable prices of cocoa, which sometimes reached only at 2,500-3,000 dong / kg of fresh fruits, while green grapefruit prices remained at a high level so farmers were rushing to cut down cocoa trees, causing the losses of cocoa area from more than 10,000 (in 2010) to 5,200 ha.
"However, from early 2014 to current time, cocoa prices stable at a high level, at this time cocoa prices reached 5,000-5,500 dong / kg of fresh fruit and about 60,000 VND / kg dry seeds so farmers do not cut down cocoa trees again but diseased, low yield trees. In Ben Tre, most of cocoa trees are intercropped in coconut garden and the fact that this model has got higher efficiency compared to grow coconuts itself. If having well careness, farmer will have high incomes more than 100 million VND / ha, excluding input costs farmers will have interest abut 60-70 million / ha "- Mr. Khổng confirmed.
